Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati Narayan Deo of Paralakhemundi is remembered as a visionary leader who played a vital role in the formation of modern Odisha. Known as one of the architects of Odisha’s statehood, his relentless efforts in unifying Odia-speaking regions were instrumental in the state’s creation on April 1, 1936. Maharaja Gajapati was a patron of education and initiated numerous developmental projects to uplift the Odia people. His contributions extended to founding premier institutions like Utkal University and SCB Medical College. As a dedicated leader and reformer, he left an enduring legacy in the fields of education, social reform, and politics, earning a revered place in Odisha’s history as a unifier and champion of Odia identity.
